Why You Should Use a
Weighted Blanket for Anxiety

The benefits of a weighted blankets can range anywhere from a sense of calm, comfort, and relaxation to a feeling of being tucked in, safe, like a big hug. Adults, teens and children can benefit from using a weighted blanket. Our weighted blankets are a easy, cost friendly, solution for sleep therapy and relaxation.

"In psychiatric care, weighted blankets are one of our most powerful tools for helping people who are anxious, upset, and possibly on the verge of losing control," says Karen Moore, OTR/L, an occupational therapist in Franconia, N.H.

"These blankets work by providing input to the deep pressure touch receptors throughout the body," Moore says. "Deep pressure touch helps the body relax. Like a firm hug, weighted blankets help us feel secure, grounded and safe." Moore says this is the reason many people like to sleep under a comforter, even in Summer.

  • ADD/ADHD Spectrum Disorder; many kids who live with these disorders use these blankets for relaxation during school, or therapy sessions or even just to help them to sleep.
  • Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS); due to chemotherapy, menopause or anxiety.
  • Sensory Integrations Disorders/Sensory Processing Disorders.
  • People who are 65 or older; weighted blankets help calm a countless amount of symptoms, including those who have Alzheimer's or Parkinson's Disease.
Weighted blankets are often times used in classrooms, dentist offices,  councillor offices, senior living, and so much more.

How heavy should a weighted blanket be?

The general rule of thumb is 10% of user's body weight plus 1lb, with the opportunity to go up to 15% of the users body weight. It is much easier to be flexible with blankets for adults depending on preference. Weight and height both determine size of blanket. We don't want the blanket hanging off the bed, to get the optimal benefits the blanket should hug your body comfortably. If your partner would like to use the blanket, we recommend buying two separate blankets as it will be better financially and also to better suit the user.
We do not believe in making blankets for children under the age of two for safety concerns. Please contact us if you have any questions on the matter.
